Abstract

The rise of intolerance and exclusivist attitudes among youth highlights the urgent need for systematic efforts to internalize moderation values in educational settings. Madrasahs, as integral components of the national education system, play a strategic role in fostering balanced religious understanding and promoting social harmony. This study aims to analyze the implementation of religious moderation at MAN 4 Bantul by examining policy enactment, implementation strategies, and the institutional culture that develops within the school environment. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation analysis to explore how moderation values are integrated into curriculum design, daily practices, and student activities. The findings reveal that religious moderation is implemented systematically through curriculum integration, habituation in daily activities, and exemplary conduct demonstrated by teachers and school leaders. Student organizations such as OSIS, ROHIS, and Scouts also play a significant role in reinforcing moderation values, supported by literacy programs oriented toward inclusivity and tolerance. The school culture reflects strong values of inclusiveness, respect for diversity, and social harmony. Furthermore, strategic development is carried out through structured program planning, consistent implementation, cultural reinforcement, and collaboration with external stakeholders. Continuous monitoring and evaluation ensure program sustainability and effectiveness. The study implies that the integration of religious moderation into school culture can effectively shape students’ character and strengthen national identity, offering a replicable model for other Islamic educational institutions.
