Pendidikan Karakter di Era Viralitas: Strategi Sekolah dalam Menumbuhkan Empati dan Etika Digital

The era of viralization, characterized by the rapid dissemination of information through digital media, presents significant challenges for character education in schools. Students are increasingly exposed to viral content that influences their attitudes and behaviors, both in digital interactions and real-life situations. This study aims to examine school strategies for fostering empathy and digital ethics as crucial components of character education in the digital age. The research method employed is a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving observations, interviews, and questionnaires to collect data from teachers, school principals, and students. The key findings of this study show that character education based on empathy and digital ethics can be strengthened through curriculum integration, teacher role modeling, and reflective activities that engage students in discussions and understanding the social impact of digital behavior. Schools, families, and communities play complementary roles in raising students' moral awareness regarding empathy and ethics in digital interactions. The implications of this research suggest that schools need to implement character education that is more adaptive to the development of digital technology and the viral flow of information, as well as foster collaboration between schools, families, and communities to create an ethical and responsible learning environment. With this approach, schools can help students become individuals who are not only digitally proficient but also ethical and empathetic in their interactions both in the digital space and real-life settings.
